Playground Arrivals

We have noticed that several unsupervised children are arriving very early in the mornings to the playground.  Can we remind parents that the teaching staff do not come out for playground duty until 8.40am and we are very concerned for the safety of children out in the playground by themselves.  Children are the responsibility of their carers until 8.40am.  Therefore we must ask that parents either arrive with their children and remain on the playground to supervise themselves until a member of staff comes onto the playground, or that parents ensure that their children do not arrive until 8.40am.  Your co-operation with this is greatly appreciated.

A message from the Chair of Governors and Headteacher

It is with much sadness that the Governing Body must report that the kitchen here at Trowse will be closing shortly.  The Government has brought in new regulations concerning the ventilation of Gas fuelled kitchens.  We understand from Norfolk Property Services that when our kitchen is next inspected for its annual CORGI certificate, although it is perfectly safe at the moment, it will not meet these new regulations.  We understand that the inspection could take place within the next couple of weeks.

Plans are in place to ensure that the school is still able to provide Hot School meals on a daily basis.  These meals will be cooked at Framingham Earl High School kitchens for us, and transported to school shortly before the start of our lunch hour.  Some of our other cluster schools already use this service and they report that the quality of the meals is still excellent.  The kitchens at Framingham Earl use locally sourced food which is freshly prepared each day.  It also obviously meets the Governments standards for primary school meals..

The Governing Body wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff that have worked so hard in our kitchen over the years and provided us with such fantastic meals.

The Governing Body will be working with the new Headteacher on future plans to develop our kitchen space to enhance the curriculum for all our children, and we will keep you advised of developments.

The cost of meals will not change. It is currently £2 per day.  The school bursar will contact those families who are currently having hot school meals to advise of payments required.

Chess Club

Mr Portman would like to organise a chess club for Years 4, 5 and 6. The club will take place on Tuesdays, immediately after school, ending at 4.15pm.

The club will be organised in such a way as to provide a serious, yet enjoyable, approach to playing chess. To help maintain the ideal conditions for chess to be played in this way, there will be a minimum of noise in the room and all the children will be expected to assist with this.

Club sessions will normally begin with a short warm-up which will be followed by a quick lesson before children play a game. Mr Portman will be encouraging sportsmanship, too. During the spring term, he is hoping to involve those interested in The British Land UK Chess Challenge 2009, which looks a very exciting competition suitable for children of all abilities.

If your child is interested in attending chess club, please would you complete the slip brought home by your child and return it to school as soon as possible. Please note that spaces will be limited and will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Advice about Gastroenteritis

We have received advice from Norfolk County Council regarding sickness and diarrhoea.  The school is obliged to report any ‘outbreaks’ of this “as soon as two or more apparently linked cases occur at around the same time” to the Local Environmental Health Officer, reporting on the dates of onset of the illness, school class and whether or not the pupil/staff involved eat food provided by the school.  All affected pupils should not attend school until 72 hours after recovery with normal stools, unless otherwise advised by the Health Protection Unit.

Because this illness is so easily spread within the school environment, we very much appreciate your support in helping us follow these guidelines.
